This book is the story of lives. I think the story lacks so much of the romanticism that plagues our culture and it is so refreshing: why must we always have closure? This book, I felt, sufficiently offered closure while leaving it simultaneously ambiguous. I was disappointed about certain things when they ended, but this is also the way things are! While some think it's pretentious and a waste of space, I love that Kundera asks fundamental questions of humanity. And thank god he asks these questions, because they are important! If you think this is a waste of space, perhaps Twilight would be a better read for you (especially since it is an oh-so-tantalizing metaphor for abstinence, a pathetic nineteenth-century belief we have yet to leave behind). If you don't ask yourself these questions (i.e. what do you believe?), then you are a waste of humanity. Powerfully written stories with insightful commentary from the author, I highly recommend this book (if you're up to it).

this is one of the best books I have ever read. An amazing story, told beautifully. It was so good I didn't even realize I was reading. Can't wait to read The Gift of Asher Lev.
